4 Event industry trends for the rest of 2021

2021 calendar

The events and hospitality industries have been dealt a significant number of blows since the start of 2021, causing their roadmaps to recovery to take a little longer than expected. But as the sectors make their final push today to return to normality, we take a look at some trends we can expect to see across live events, festivals and live gigs for the rest of 2021. Including what it means for us at Silverback events and anyone interested in stage crew jobs across the UK.

Increased number of outdoor events

Since the 2012 Olympics, the UK outdoor events industry has seen staggering growth, with over 7,000 major outdoor events held up and down the country each year pre-2019. But since the rise of COVID-19, event organisers have seen an even greater demand for more and more events to be taken outdoors, with the risk of infection believed to be much less significant outdoors.

Making a permanent shift to outdoor events allows the accommodation of much larger, much safer groups of attendees. As the industry had no choice but to improvise and adapt over recent months, organisers were understandably apprehensive about the success of these new events, but recent months have proved an untold success and a trend that is likely here to stay. At Silverback, we have a wealth of experience in festival crew and outdoor event crew work, and we look forward to being part of these incredible opportunities.

Popularisation of hybrid events

With video communication tools like Zoom becoming a household name across recent months allowing individuals to work and socialise from the safety of their homes, it’s become clear that virtual events will become a permanent part of how we go about our daily lives. But we’re already starting to notice an evolution in virtual events with the introduction of hybrid events.

Hybrid events are exactly what their name suggests, a hybrid of both in-person and virtual attendees. Hybrid events allow attendees to continue to attend their favourite events according to their comfort level, with organisers able to host events with a far greater audience than ever before – without compromising safety.

With smaller face-to-face audiences, lower overheads and greater audience reach; we can all expect to see an increase in hybrid events taking place across the UK. Creating more business, more choice and more growth across the events industry. With more hybrid events we can expect to see an increased need for event crew hire, if the exciting growth we’re about to see across the industry, get in touch and see how you can take part in event crew work and become a Silverback.

Emphasizing safety

It’s hard to count the number of restrictions changes the events industry has faced over recent months, keeping owners and organisers on their toes, forcing the industry to adapt efficiently, normally under incredibly short timeframes. But it’s safe to say the safety of both staff and event-goers alike has cemented itself as the number one priority across the sector. Regardless of what the future holds for us all in 2021, we can be sure that an emphasis on safety at events will continue to be of the utmost importance up and down the UK, with venues making the best use of outdoor spaces, implementing social distancing measures and investing heavily in preventative measures to ensure the industry can continue to thrive.

Adaptive creativity

Change, in anything, brings about creative solutions. Event organisers know that live events, festivals and gigs will be forever changed as a result of COVID-19; forcing the creative exploration of new, untested ideas about how they can engage with audiences. It’s hard to accurately say just what this will bring in the future, but we can be sure that we will see some very exciting new ideas and developments going forward.

At Silverback, we’re incredibly excited to see what the future will hold for the events industry. With new ideas come new opportunities, and now is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking for stage crew jobs or crew work to get into one of the most exciting, fast-paced industries of 2021.
